 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Planning Board meetings in recent years frequently have featured spirited debates for and against zoning bylaw amendment proposals with advocates for and against on both sides of the table in the Select Board Meeting Room. On Tuesday, there was little of that. Instead, there was near unanimous opinion on the board and among attendees at the pre-town meeting public hearing that no one wants to see that meeting approve a pair of bylaw amendments brought by the owner of the Sweetwood Independent Living Community on Cold Spring Road.  MONTPELIER, Vt. — The Vermont Warden Service will be holding three public information meetings this month to raise awareness about updated recruitment criteria. On Wednesday morning, stones fill in the hole left by erosion on the road. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town and Williams College are working to repair a damaged brook bank that led to erosion issues on the access road to the transfer station. Town Manager Robert Menicocci said Wednesday that the town reached out to both abutters of the town-owned property, the college and CSX Corp., owner of the nearby railroad. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Finance Committee last week advanced a fiscal year 2024 budget that carries a projected 1.3 percent increase in the property tax levy townwide. The Fin Comm went into its final weekly meeting of the FY24 budget cycle with one major decision point on its plate: whether to endorse a budget that included $100,000 in spending to bolster the town's stabilization account and an additional $150,000 toward capital projects. The potential tradeoff of pulling that $250,000 out of the spending plan was that, without it, the town would have needed to raise $20.1 million in FY24 through taxation. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — After months of consternation over the cost of overruns to a multi-modal path through town, the town manager Monday announced that Williamstown's share of the cost has effectively been cut in half. "MassDOT has said that what they'd be willing to do is accept the $700,000 we've paid as the sum total due to them for all the overruns," Robert Menicocci told the Select Board on Monday night. "Right now, the additional overrun is approaching $700,000. We're off the hook for that amount of money."
