PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Abigail Geurds was the fastest female finisher in the 4th of July 5K on Friday morning.   Geurds covered the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 51 seconds to place 26th overall.   The race saw 1,141 competitors finish the out-and-back course from Wahconah Street south to the intersection of South Street and West Housatonic and back to Wahconah Park.   The top finisher overall was Steve Dowsett of Newburyport, who ran a time of 15:12 to finish three seconds ahead of runner-up Alex White of Dalton.   Finishers at the event ranged in age from Pittsfield’s Eamon Doyle, 7, who ran a time of 26:34, to

Pittsfield's Infield Offers Youth Sports Camps

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Infield is offering a series of youth sports camps for children aged 4 to 12 starting next week at its Lyman Street facility.   The first two sessions are a baseball camp for children 7 to 12. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon, July 7-9.   From 9 to noon, July 21-23, The Infield will hold a softball camp for children 7 to 12.   The cost for each three-day camp is $150.   The Infield is holding an all-sports camp for kids 4 to 6 on Aug. 18 and 19 from 9 to 11 a.m.   The camp will allow youngsters to explore baseball, soccer, basketball and more.   The cost for the all-sports camp is $100.   To register, visit The Infield's

Williamstown's Planned Skate Park Before Conservation Commission

The current outdated skate park on Stetson Road.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town is seeking approval from the Conservation Commission for a project to replace the 2,100 square foot skate park on Stetson Road with an up-to-date concrete park on roughly the same footprint.   The project, which received a $32,000 infusion of Community Preservation Act funds from town meeting in May, is currently before the commission because of its proximity to bordering vegetative wetlands off Stetson Road.   "There is wetland southwest of the project area behind a chain link fence," Andre-Anne Chenaille of civil engineering firm Guntlow and Associates told the Con Comm at

Call For Art: Eyes on Art Town 2025 Williamstown Cultural District Banner Exhibition

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Town of Williamstown, the Williamstown Cultural District, and the Williamstown Chamber of Commerce are partnering in an opportunity to showcase local artwork right in downtown Williamstown.

From Labor Day to November 2025, selected art will be reproduced on vertical banners on utility poles along Spring and Latham Streets. 

Artists and community members are encouraged to submit designs for the Eyes on Art Town banner call. 

Installed: around September 13 – November 1, 2025 (weather dependent) For those selected, original artworks can be included in an exhibit in the Spring Street Market in October.

Williamstown Moves to Replace Sign Commission

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday took a step toward replacing the town's moribund Sign Commission.   For a couple of years, officials have been sending out a call for volunteers to serve on the body, which has, "authority for control of all signs," under Chapter 53 of the town's code.   As of the start of Monday's meeting, just one active member of the commission was serving the town and the Sign Commission was unable to conduct business.   The three members of the Select Board at Monday's meeting remedied that by voting to appoint the Zoning Board of Appeals to act as the town's Sign Commission — similar to how the
