Clark Art Offers Free Gallery Tours for Parents and Infants

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10:15 am, the Clark Art Institute hosts the next in its series of free tours of its permanent collection galleries designed specifically to meet the interests of new parents/caregivers and their infants.    Participants should meet at the Clark's main admissions desk.    The program is specially designed to provide new parents and caregivers with a stress-free experience that offers chances to socialize with others who are caring for young infants. Williamstown Board Talks Tax Relief Implementation

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday discussed how to implement a targeted property tax relief measure that town meeting approved last May.   The initiative, which started with the board, allows the town to give means-tested property tax exemptions to residents 65 and older who meet the commonwealth's requirement for a refundable credit on their state income tax.   In May, town meeting members overwhelmingly decided to send a home-rule petition to Boston to allow the local tax relief program. The Legislature approved the request just before the end of its 2024 session, and Gov. Maura Healey recently signed it into law.   Now, it is up to the Select Board

Clark Art Announces Ground/Work Outdoor Exhibition

Williamstown Fire Personnel Committee to Interview Six Applicants for Chief Position

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Twenty-four applicants from as far away as California applied to be the town's next fire chief, the Prudential Committee learned on Wednesday.   By the end of next month, one of those applicants could be named the replacement for retiring Chief Craig Pedercini.   At Wednesday's meeting of the committee, which oversees the fire district, member Joe Beverly, who also serves on the district's Personnel Committee, reported that the latter body had reviewed two dozen applicants who sought to lead the call-volunteer department.   On Thursday, Beverly said, the Personnel Committee will interview six applicants from that pool.   The hiring

Williamstown Community Preservation Committee Funds Proposals at Half the Levels Sought

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee Wednesday decided to send town meeting warrant articles that fund each of eight applications for CPA funds at half of the levels requested.   The committee started its consideration of fiscal year 2026 requests with applications totaling about $294,000.   Pending tax collection and state matching funds, the town expects to have $202,535 in Community Preservation Act funds available in the fiscal year that begins on July 1. But CPC Chair Philip McKnight noted at Wednesday's meeting that nearly $43,000 of that available balance needed to be held in reserve for future open space requests because none of the requests

McCann Tech Hockey Program Hosting Alumni Game

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The North County high school hockey cooperative program is inviting former players to participate in the fourth annual alumni game on Sunday, Feb. 23.   The game will be played at 4 p.m. at the Peter W. Foote Vietnam Veterans Memorial Rink.   The co-op, currently hosted by McCann Tech, also includes players from Hoosac Valley, Mount Greylock and Drury.   Tickets to the event are $10 and include the opportunity to skate with the players after the contest.   The cost for players is $40.
