 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday discussed how the town communicates to residents during an emergency and whether residents unaffiliated with Williams College should have access to the same information as college students and staff about incidents on campus. The topic came up in response to a couple of recent events: the July 16 power outage that left most of the town in the dark for hours, and two incidents that led to evacuations on the Williams campus on May 23 and July 11. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Prudential Committee on Wednesday discussed the need for a policy for all call-volunteer firefighters who reach the state's mandatory retirement age. And the panel talked about how the Fire Department can continue to utilize the experience of members who have reached the age of 65. The state's retirement age first came up in the context of Chief Craig Pedercini, who had asked the Prudential Committee to start the process of a home-rule petition to the Legislature to receive an exemption for the district when he has his 65th birthday next year. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — In accordance with state regulations, all temporary cumulative school and health records for students who have graduated from or left Mount Greylock Regional School during the 2016-2017 school year will be destroyed on Friday, August 23, 2024. State regulations require that student records be destroyed seven years after the student graduates. However, the high school transcript that includes the grades for the four years of high school is maintained for 60 years following graduation. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday began its review of the development plan for a new Williams College Museum of Art at the junction of Routes 2 and 7.
