Clark Art Presents Art Making Workshop

Clark Art Airs Production of 'La Rondine'

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Metropolitan Opera's broadcast of "La Rondine" airs at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, April 20 at 12:55 pm in the latest installment of the 2023–24 season of The Met: Live in HD.    The award-winning series of live, high-definition cinema simulcasts features the full live performance along with backstage interviews and commentary. Holiday Hours: Patriots Day

Monday, April 15, is Patriots Day, a state holiday marking the anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord that began the American Revolution. The day has been celebrated on the third Monday in April since 1969.

It was on the morning of April 20, 1775, that Paul Revere and other riders began the alert across and beyond Massachusetts Colony that troops were planning to advance from Boston to the towns of Lexington and Concord. They were to seize a cache of gunpowder and arms and capture revolutionaries Sam Adams and John Hancock.

(Local legend claims that Israel Bissell, later of Hinsdale, rode all the way to Philadelphia, but most historians dismiss it.)

Senior Golf Series Returns in September

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire County Fall Senior Golf series returns in September with events on five consecutive Wednesdays starting Sept. 18.   It is the 22nd year of the series, which is a fund-raiser for junior golf in the county, and it is open to players aged 50 and up.   The series will feature two divisions for each event based on the combined ages of the playing partners.   Golfers play from the white tees (or equivalent) with participants 70 and over or who have a handicap of more than 9 able to play from the forward tees.   Gross and net prices will be available in each division.   The cost is $55 per event and includes a round of golf, food and

Williamstown Charter Proposal Sparks Concern over 'Separation of Powers'

  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board and Planning Board this week clashed over a proposal that would add to the town charter a mechanism to ensure compliance with the foundation of town government.   The Select Board on Monday night finalized the warrant for the annual town meeting.   Most of the 42 articles on the agenda for the Thursday, May 23, meeting were recommended by the Select Board for passage with little or no comment. Clark Art Presents Films From Saodat Ismailova

Clark Art Invites People With Dementia and Their Caregivers

Clark Art April School Vacation Week Kids Activities

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — From Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19, the Clark Art Institute offers children and families fun activities and opportunities to see great art as part of April School Vacation Week.    Visitors can pick up a set of Looking Carefully Cards, drawing pads, and complimentary colored pencils at the Clark Center Admissions desk to use while exploring the galleries and the grounds. Museumgoers are also encouraged to stop by the Clark's postcard station on the lower level of the Museum Building. Williamstown Board Votes to Remove Town Flag From Meeting Room

There are two versions of the town flag; one in Town Hall and the other in the Hall of Flags at the State House. The 1753 House in Field Park is a recreation built for the town's bicentennial in 1965. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board has agreed to remove the town flag a year after town meeting established a bylaw restricting the use of flags on public property.   The town flag has been prominently displayed behind the table in the Select Board meeting room for some time. Its three mountains, the Mount Greylock tower and fall foliage haven't caused any issues — it's the image of the 1753 House sitting in the middle.    The board voted
