Mount Greylock Committee Talks Goals, Improvement Plan

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional Schools interim superintendent Thursday walked the School Committee through his goals for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year and gave a status update on the District Improvement Plan the committee approved earlier this year.   "We are in a unique spot in that I'm very happily an 'interim,' " Joseph Bergeron told the committee at its monthly meeting. Mass DEP OKs Williamstown Habitat for Humanity Project

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The president of Northern Berkshire Habitat for Humanity this week expressed satisfaction after the state Department of Environmental Protection ruled on a proposed four-home subdivision off Summer Street.   "It's basically exactly what I expected," Keith Davis said of the Nov. 7 decision from the Massachusetts DEP's Western Regional Office in Springfield. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Planning Board on Tuesday discussed ways to reach out to residents who use their homes for short-term rentals as the body prepares to bring a bylaw regulating the practice to May's annual town meeting.   Short-term rentals – referred to as Airbnbs in the vernacular — have been a topic of conversation for the board for years. Veterans Day Ceremonies and Holiday Hours

An image of the 353rd Infantry in France taken two minutes before the armistice ending World War I went into effect.

Veterans Day falls on Monday, Nov. 11, and will be observed as a state and federal holiday.

The federal holiday is to commemorate the service of the nation's military veterans in ensuring peace.

It was first known as Armistice Day to mark the end of World War I at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. In recognition of the efforts of World War II veterans, President Eisenhower in 1954 signed legislation creating Veterans Day with the goal of honoring all American veterans.

Ioka Valley Farm Win Maple Syrup Competition

HANCOCK, Mass. — Pure maple products made by Massachusetts maple syrup producers were once again proclaimed to be the best in the world, as three of the state's sugarmakers took home prizes from the North American Maple Syrup Council's annual competition, held this year in Portland, Maine.   Four prizes were collected by Massachusetts producers. Williamstown to Undergo Audit of Land-Use Rules

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The community development director on Monday updated the Select Board on progress in executing the recently adopted comprehensive plan.   And he told them that one major initiative coming out of the plan got a boost from the commonwealth.   "Completion of a land-use policy and regulatory audit is a huge item," Andrew Groff told the board at its twice-monthly meeting. "I can announce that the town received Community One-Stop funding, a $100,000 grant from the commonwealth. We're going to be partnering with the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission on a housing policy audit and review."   Groff said that the audit will help
