The trial of Donald Trump in Manhattan might seem like a matter of legal technicalities, but I think it's really important in another way. It has shown us clearly the character of Trump and the Republican party he now dominates. He denies that he had sex with Stormy Daniels, even when this obvious lie hurts his case and has little to do with the charges against him. He demands that others show their loyalty by repeating his lies, as Michael Cohen did for years. His ego is so brittle that he has an aide who prints out favorable stories about him to keep him occupied and calm while in court.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional Schools' superintendent last week asked the School Committee to adopt a policy banning student cell-phone use in the district's three schools. Jason McCandless last Thursday told the committee that his thinking about personal electronic devices in schools has evolved over the last year. As recently as last spring, McCandless told the committee that he did not feel a ban was warranted. Now, he believes that no good comes from students using cell phones in school and, in fact, significant harm comes from the social media accessed on the devices. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday will consider considered dedicating some of the town's remaining ARPA funds to address an emergency situation in the local public schools. Randal Fippinger brought the idea to the board in response to detailed testimony on racist incidents at Williamstown Elementary School and Mount Greylock Regional School that were raised both to the town's diversity committee and the Mount Greylock Regional School Committee.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — No injuries were reported Wednesday after a car drove into a house at 1033 Simonds Road (Route 7). Williamstown Police and Fire and Northern Berkshire EMS were at the scene at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday cleaning up and waiting for a wrecker to remove the vehicle. The lone occupant of the car, the driver, had been evaluated and refused transport to the hospital, officials said. Wednesday's rain may have contributed to the accident. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — All four candidates on the town election ballot easily won election on Tuesday in a light day of polling at the elementary school. In a town with about 5,000 registered voters, 438 ballots were cast in an election with no contested races, a turnout rate of about 8.6 percent. Incumbent Select Board member Jeffrey Johnson received 408 votes for a second three-year term on the body. Anna Halpin-Healy was returned to the library board of trustees for another three years with 419 votes.
