WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at 10:15 am, the Clark Art Institute will host a tour of the permanent collection galleries for new parents. The event is free. Participants will meet at the Clark's main Admissions desk. New parents and caregivers are invited to bring their infants into the galleries for an informal, guided visit. The tour includes a look at the Clark's permanent collection, featuring an array of works by artists such as John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Berthe Morisot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Provisions Williamstown, a new fine wine and cheese shop at 4 Water St., is celebrating its grand opening today, Thursday, with a tasting event that begins at 4 p.m. "This is supposed to be an experience, like anything else we enjoy in life," said Peter MacGillivray, who runs the business with his family and others. "You really want to be able to hang out here. You want to dwell in the moment and explore new things and meet people."  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 5:30 pm, architectural historian Zeynep Çelik Alexander (Columbia University) will present a talk examining the architectural history of imperial data. Sharing material from her forthcoming book, Alexander investigates the construction of nineteenth-century storehouses of information in the British Empire. Alexander notes that what people call a "database" today was, first and foremost, a political technology that, she argues, could be understood as a legacy of imperialism. On a beautiful, designated "scenic road" in Williamstown, with 1,500 feet of frontage, offering spectacular views of Mount Greylock, a portion of a farm dating back to the 1800s could be converted to a large lot, single-family home development. This property is in an area designated as a distinctive landscape by the state Department of Environmental Management due to its impressive vistas and the most picturesque mountain scenery in the commonwealth.
Today, less than 7 percent of the land in Williamstown is dedicated preserved farmland. Rural sprawl, such as proposed here, is one of the biggest causes of the loss of farmland.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional High School students donated $1,000 to the Berkshire Immigrant Center (BIC) during a Greylock Talks presentation focusing on immigration in the Berkshires. During the lecture, Tuesday, eighth-grade students Lillian Howe, Abbe Ali-Nixon, and Esme Aalberts handed over a $1,000 check to a BIC Volunteer Coordinator Charles Bonenti. "[The student raising money is] remarkable to me. We may hire them as fundraisers for other projects we have going here in the districts.
