Clark Art Presents Exhibition of Isamu Noguchi

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—The Clark Art Institute presents a survey of the acclaimed Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988).    According to a press release:   Isamu Noguchi: Landscapes of Time surveys Noguchi's perennial engagements with the concept of time, from his early design for a commercial kitchen timer to his late carvings of millennia-old stone.    The exhibition is on view July 19 through October 13, 2025 in the Clark Center's Michael Conforti Pavilion.   The exhibition was developed in collaboration with the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, Long Island City, New York. Mount Greylock School Committee Moves Toward Appointing Superintendent

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee is poised to name interim Superintendent Joseph Bergeron as the full-time superintendent of the three-school, K-12 district.   At its July 10 meeting, the committee was to hear a report from the three-person working group updating the plan to hire a new superintendent.   Instead, Chair Julia Bowen, who serves on the working group, told the full committee that the subgroup had a different recommendation.   "We intended to come today with a [request for proposals for a search firm] for people to approve," Bowen said. Williamstown Select Board Discusses Plans of Action

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday discussed the its priorities for the 2024-25 session and projects on which individual members of the board want to focus in the year ahead.   As a starting point for the conversation, Chair Stephanie Boyd pointed the panel to the comprehensive plan adopted in November 2023 by the Planning Board.   "The comprehensive plan, overall, is managed by the Planning Board, but a lot of the initiatives involve more than just the Planning Board to work on," Boyd said. Clark Art Presents Morning Self-Care

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Tuesday, July 22, the Clark Art Institute presents a "Morning of Self-Care" with activities designed to engage and relax.   From 9:30 am to 10:30 am, local yoga instructor Mary Edgerton leads free all-levels yoga sessions inspired by the sights and sounds of the Clark's natural landscape on the Reflecting Pool lawn. Continue a morning of self-care and introspection indoors when the museum opens at 10 am. Visitors can pick up a Pause and Reflect Guide at the Clark Center admissions desk and embark on a contemplative engagement with art in the galleries, alone or with a loved one.   Yoga takes place by the Reflecting Pool and is free.

Clark Art Hosts Opening Lecture, Walking Tour on Ground/Work 2025

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute celebrates the opening of its newest sculpture exhibition, "Ground/work 2025," with a free walking tour and conversations with each of the artists. 

The opening is Saturday, July 19, and starts at 11 a.m. with a lecture by exhibition curator Glenn Adamson exploring the theme of craft and its different cultural expressions.

The talk also features recent photography highlighting the round-the-clock experience of appreciating the works of art across the Clark's grounds, and a question-and-answer session. This free event takes place in the Clark's Manton Research Center auditorium.

Hoosic River Watershed Association Green River Clean Up

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Join the Hoosic River Watershed Association and the South Williamstown Community Association for our annual Green River Clean Up on Saturday July 19 from 1-3pm.   The Town of Williamstown has for the last few years been addressing the debris washing into the River from a former town landfill located behind the Hart farm on New Ashford Road (Route 7), but there is still work to be done.   Park at the Hart Garage and cross the road to walk down the driveway at the Thaisz house, 340 New Ashford Road.

Clark Art Presents: The Writing on the Wall

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —The Clark Art Institute hosts the return of the literary celebration The Writing on the Wall on Sunday, July 20 at 3 pm, featuring a quartet of award-winning actors performing short fiction readings.

This special program combines art, theater, and the written word. The event takes place in the Clark's auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center.

Trump Administration Hold on Education Funds Threatens Programs

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — An after-school program that enhances students' school day learning is at risk due to actions of the Trump administration.   The Department of Education notified states that it is withholding more than $6 billion in federal grants for K-12 education.   That includes $108 million for schools in Massachusetts. And, the North Adams Public Schools are at risk for losing some of the $740,000 in grants it expects to gets under the federal Title I, Title II and Title IV programs.   Superintendent Timothy Callahan said the delayed funding will affect some professional development and salaries, such as leadership staff who may get a small percentage of

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Bianchi-Barbarotta Foundation Friday recognized nine winners of the organization’s annual awards for contributions to sports in Berkshire County.   The honorees were recognized at a dinner at the Polish Falcon Club.   Paula and Dick Rivers received the foundation’s Living Legends Award. Peter White took home the Connie Bianchi Memorial Award of Merit. Ben Knute was honored as the Volunteer of the year. Clark Art Presents Exhibition on Photographer Bernice Abbott

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute marks the 100-year anniversary of Berenice Abbott's first photographs with an exhibition examining the relationship between her portraits of people and her "portraits" of places.    According to a press release:    Berenice Abbott (American, 1898–1991) was one of the most important American photographers of the twentieth century, known for her pioneering documentary style, unpretentious compositions, and technical innovations. A woman photographer working in the relatively early days of the medium, Abbott demonstrated that women could hold a prominent place in cutting-edge artistic communities.

Williams College Projects Underway on Main Street

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A busy summer construction season around town got a little busier this week with the advancement of two unrelated projects near the Williams College Museum of Art.   Both the entrance and exit to Lawrence Hall Drive are seeing some changes in the coming weeks.   Earlier this summer, the college removed several large juniper bushes near the east side of Lawrence Hall Drive (the exit onto Main Street) as part of a larger project to make the area more safe for pedestrians.   "The College is replacing broken and deteriorating sections of sidewalk that are a safety issue," Williams Horticulture and Grounds Manager Tim Roberts wrote in an email
