Clark Art Institute to Host 'Start with Art' Program

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will host a free program, "Start with Art," on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m.    The program will focus on the theme of "Movement."   The event is designed for children aged three to six and their caregivers. Activities will include art-making and discussions about artwork.   Gallery guides will be available for children to use while exploring the museum's collection of paintings and sculptures.   The program will take place in the Michael Conforti Pavilion.   The event is free of charge.   Accessibility inquiries can be made by calling 413-458-0524.

Mount Greylock Regional School Committee Moves Draft Budget Forward

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Mount Greylock Regional School Committee Thursday agreed to move ahead with the draft budget largely intact from the version the panel reviewed at its Feb. 13 meeting.   If moved forward by the full committee after its March 13 public hearing and, ultimately, approved by voters in each member town, the fiscal year 2026 spending plan would continue a recent trend of spending down the district's reserves and still translate to assessment increases of nearly 8 percent for Williamstown and 7 percent for Lanesborough from the fiscal year that ends on June 30.   "Between now and March 13, there will be areas where we're refining utilities and

Contra Dance Event Scheduled in Williamstown

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — North Berkshire Community Dance will host a contra dance on Saturday, March 8th, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Community Hall of the First Congregational Church, located at 906 Main St.   Luke Donforth will serve as the caller, providing instruction for each dance. Live music will be performed by the band Spare Parts.   Admission is on a pay-as-you-can basis, with a suggested range of $12 to $20. Clark Art Screens Free Small Town Film Series

All films are free and screened in the Manton Research Center auditorium on select Thursdays at 6 pm.

Williamstown Board of Health Looks at Tenant Issues, Home Condemnation

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Board of Health Monday heard complaints from tenants about the conditions of their apartments and condemned a Longview Terrace home that has been on the board's radar for months.   The owner occupant of 92 Longview Terrace and her son attended the Monday morning hearing to ask that the board allow the family to address conditions at the home without taking the step of condemnation.   In the end, the board agreed with Health Inspector Ruth Russell that in order to ensure no one was living at the property, the panel needed to issue an order to condemn.   Monday was not the first time Russell told the board about her efforts to inspect the

Williamstown Prudential Committee Learns Finalists for Fire Chief Position

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Prudential Committee on Wednesday learned the names of three finalists to become the next fire chief as selected by the panel's Personnel Committee.   Prudential Committee member Joe Beverly, who served on the screening panel, told the full committee that 24 applicants were vetted by the Personnel Committee, an ad hoc group charged with helping the district replace longtime Chief Craig Pedercini, who is scheduled to retire at the end of March.   The three finalists, who will be interviewed by the full Prudential Committee on Wednesday, March 5, they are: Jeffrey J.
