Williamstown Select Board OKs Budget for Pride Month Events

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday approved town funds to support a series of Pride Month activities in town this June.   By a vote of 5-0, the board OK'd up to $5,000 to fund events that will kick off with a Progress Pride Flag raising in front of town hall on Sunday, June 1, followed by a community meal on the lawn of the Milne Public Library.   That kickoff celebration accounts for nearly half of the funds sought by the organizing committee planning the festivities, Select Board member Randal Fippinger told his colleagues.   "This is a [Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity Committee] event connected with the public library and other folks in

Clark Art Institute to Host Contemplative Tour of Art and Landscape

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will offer a program titled "Sensing Nature: From the Outside In" on Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m.

This free event, led by a Clark educator, focuses on connecting with nature and art to enhance well-being.

The program will begin with a short, mindful walk in the woods on the Clark's campus, intended to engage the senses with the natural environment. Following the walk, participants will engage in a contemplative art-looking experience within the galleries.

Busy Night for Williamstown Police Includes Life-Saving Moment

Berkshire Green Drinks to Feature Hoffmann Bird Club

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.— Williams College graduate student Riley Yuen (M.A. Class of 2025) will present the 2024–25 Judith M. Lenett Lecture at the Clark Art Institute on Monday, May 19, at 5 p.m.

Yuen, the Judith M. Lenett Memorial Fellow, will discuss her research on the artistic practice of Nam June Paik, focusing on a 1986 untitled multimedia piece recently acquired by the Plattsburgh State Art Museum.

Clark Art Presents Reflections Gallery Talk

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Tuesday, May 20 at 11 am, the Clark Art Institute presents Reflections, a monthly gallery experience during which visitors are invited to look contemplatively as they engage with works of art from the Clark’s collection.

Participants meet in the Museum Pavilion.

With a gentle tone that encourages investigation and audience participation, the group explores one or two artworks with the help of a Clark educator, working together to explore its meaning, find understanding, and raise questions. Distinct from a conventional gallery tour, Reflections provides an opportunity for close looking and introspection.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Board of Health on Monday voted to "strongly support" the passage of a town meeting warrant article that would ban smoking in much of the town's multi-family housing stock.   Article 30 on the May 22 meeting warrant would disallow smoking or vaping tobacco products inside any multi-family dwelling with an exemption for owner-occupied buildings with four or fewer units.   William Raymond of Stratton Road pitched the idea to the board back in March, and the Select Board last month voted, 4-1, to recommend town meeting passage, an

Clark Art Institute to Present Free Outdoor Concert with Alexander Turnquist and 75 Dollar Bill

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will host a free outdoor concert featuring Alexander Turnquist and 75 Dollar Bill on Sunday, May 18, at 5 p.m.

The performance will take place on the Moltz Terrace of the Lunder Center at Stone Hill.

Alexander Turnquist, a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Kingston, NY, is known for his use of the twelve-string acoustic guitar.

75 Dollar Bill, a New York-based duo consisting of Che Chen on guitar and Rick Brown on drums, performs music that blends improvisation with elements of jazz and psychedelia. Their 2019 album, "I Was Real", was recognized as the top album of the year by The Wire.

Clark Art Institute to Air Metropolitan Opera's "Salome"

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will present a broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of "Salome" on Saturday, May 17, at 1 p.m.

The screening is part of the 2024–25 season of The Met: Live in HD and will take place in the auditorium located in the Manton Research Center.
