Williamstown Select Board Candidates Answer Questions

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — While three seats on the Select Board will be on the ballot at the May 13 annual town election, just one seat is contested.   Longtime board member Jane Patton is opposed by Shana Dixon, chair of the town's Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity Committee, to fill out the remaining year of a three-year term vacated last year by Andrew Hogeland, who moved out of the area.   iBerkshires.com asked the two candidates a series of questions about their priorities and philosophies. Presentation on Aquatic Macroinvertebrates to Be Held at Williams College

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Hoosic River Watershed Association, Williams College Center for Environmental Studies, and the Zilkha Center for the Environment will present "Turning Stones: a Presentation on Benthic Macroinvertebrates" with aquatic ecologist and Williams College professor of biology Declan McCabe on Tuesday, April 29, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The event will take place in Griffin Hall Room 3 at Williams College.

Letter: Sometimes It Is Best Not to Tinker With Tradition

To the Editor:

Williamstown has a long-standing tradition of displaying American flags on utility poles along the town green (Route 2) from Memorial Day through Veterans Day. At the last Williamstown Select Board meeting, there was a 4-1 vote to replace every fourth American Flag with a Progress Pride (rainbow) flag during the month of June.

Was there any indication in the Select Board meeting packet or the posted agenda that this potentially controversial topic would be discussed, even voted upon? The Open Meeting Law requires that the public have timely notice of anticipated topics and ample opportunity to comment. If not appropriately posted, only "emergencies" are permitted

Man Facing Charges in Williams College Restroom Surveillance

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A Weston man is facing charges related to a camera found with pictures and video in a restroom on the Williams College campus.    Maxwell Hall, 21, was charged on March 20 with 18 counts of photographing, videotaping, or electronically surveilling a partially nude or nude person.   The charges stem from an investigation prompted by a student's complaint on Jan. 16, 2025, of a camera in the second-floor public restroom at Lasell Gymnasium.    According to the District Attorney's office, the Williamstown Police Department received the report from the college's Campus Safety Service regarding suspicious activity in the gym. Clark Art Hosts Free Evening For Educators

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Thursday, May 1, the Clark Art Institute hosts a free creative professional development event for educators from across the region.    Participants will explore ways to strengthen their students' social and emotional learning through the arts. Evening for Educators is recommended for Pre-K through Grade 12 educators, including school counselors and administrators. Educators can earn professional development points through participation. The program runs from 5 pm to 8:15 pm.   The evening commences with a keynote address by Käthe Swaback, the Massachusetts Cultural Council's program officer for creative youth development and health.

Pianist Umi Garrett Performs at Clark Art Institute

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute will present pianist Umi Garrett in concert on Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. in the Manton Research Center auditorium, as part of its Music in the Manton series.

Garrett will perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Prokofiev, J.S. Bach, Frédéric Chopin, Florence Price, Gabriel Kahane, and Stephen Dankner.

Garrett has released a chamber album of Ludwig van Beethoven’s "Five Sonatas for Piano and Cello" with Emily Mantone. Berkshire County Runners Take on Boston Marathon

BOSTON – Great Barrington’s Laura Stephen was the highest finishing Berkshire County resident at Monday’s Boston Marathon.   Stephen ran a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes, 25 seconds to place 33rd in the women’s division for runners aged 60 to 64.   At least a dozen Berkshire County residents were listed on the Boston Athletic Association’s finishers at the 129th running of the event.   Sharon Lokedi of Kenya won the women’s race with a record-setting time of 2:17:22.   Her fellow Kenyan, John Korir, won the men’s race in 2:04:45.   The fastest Berkshire County finisher was Lenox Memorial graduate Ted Yee, now a student at

Group to Discuss Impact of Rodenticides on Wildlife
