Bianchi-Barbarotta Foundation Bestows Annual Honors

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – The Bianchi-Barbarotta Foundation Friday recognized nine winners of the organization’s annual awards for contributions to sports in Berkshire County.   The honorees were recognized at a dinner at the Polish Falcon Club.   Paula and Dick Rivers received the foundation’s Living Legends Award. Peter White took home the Connie Bianchi Memorial Award of Merit. Ben Knute was honored as the Volunteer of the year. And recent Pittsfield High School grads Jack Reed and Ella Bassi are recipients of the 2025 Vera Barbarotta Sportsman Scholarships.   For the first time this year, the foundation added male and female Athletes of the Year and Coach of

Clark Art Presents Exhibition on Photographer Bernice Abbott

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute marks the 100-year anniversary of Berenice Abbott's first photographs with an exhibition examining the relationship between her portraits of people and her "portraits" of places.    According to a press release:    Berenice Abbott (American, 1898–1991) was one of the most important American photographers of the twentieth century, known for her pioneering documentary style, unpretentious compositions, and technical innovations. A woman photographer working in the relatively early days of the medium, Abbott demonstrated that women could hold a prominent place in cutting-edge artistic communities.

Williams College Projects Underway on Main Street

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A busy summer construction season around town got a little busier this week with the advancement of two unrelated projects near the Williams College Museum of Art.   Both the entrance and exit to Lawrence Hall Drive are seeing some changes in the coming weeks.   Earlier this summer, the college removed several large juniper bushes near the east side of Lawrence Hall Drive (the exit onto Main Street) as part of a larger project to make the area more safe for pedestrians.   "The College is replacing broken and deteriorating sections of sidewalk that are a safety issue," Williams Horticulture and Grounds Manager Tim Roberts wrote in an email

Clark Art Summer Outdoor Concert Series With Chinobay

Williamstown's DIRE Committee Opts for Name Change

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The town's diversity committee is ready for a rebrand.   At its Monday meeting, the people appointed to serve on the Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity Advisory Committee agreed unanimously to ask the Select Board to accept a new name for the panel.   Growing out of discussions at the committee's recent retreat, the volunteer body suggested that it be renamed the Race, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.   The new name is one part of a new charge that the committee is asking the Select Board to approve, updating the charge that DIRE received in November 2022, two years after it was formed in the summer of

Summer Lacrosse Camp Offered in Dalton

DALTON, Mass. -- Wahconah Regional High School boys lacrosse coach Matt Fisher is hosting a an Elite Camp for kids in grades 5 through 12 in August.   The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wahconah from Aug. 4 through 8.   Instructors at the camp will include Ryan Lanigan, an assistant coach at Division I Siena College.   The cost is $140.   For information, contact Fisher at mfisher@daltoncra.org.

Clark Art Hosts Free Community Day

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass—On Sunday, July 13, the Clark Art Institute opens its doors for Community Day: Art In Action.

Visitors enjoy free admission all day (10 am–5 pm), and from 11 am to 4 pm, the Institute offers artmaking activities, live entertainment, and more.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield’s Abigail Geurds was the fastest female finisher in the 4th of July 5K on Friday morning.   Geurds covered the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 51 seconds to place 26th overall.   The race saw 1,141 competitors finish the out-and-back course from Wahconah Street south to the intersection of South Street and West Housatonic and back to Wahconah Park.   The top finisher overall was Steve Dowsett of Newburyport, who ran a time of 15:12 to finish three seconds ahead of runner-up Alex White of Dalton.   Finishers at the event ranged in age from Pittsfield’s Eamon Doyle, 7, who ran a time of 26:34, to
