Documentary filmmaker Kevin Schreck screens his documentary "Antarctic Voyage" on Monday evening at Images Cinema. The film follows environmental scientist Samantha Monier on a research expedition to the remote South Atlantic island of South Georgia. Detours for Williamstown's South Street Project Begin TuesdayCommunity submission,

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The long-awaited reconstruction of South Street will begin on Monday, creating a long-term traffic detour that will begin on Tuesday, the town said last week. Starting Tuesday, April 15, South Street will be one way, southbound from Field Park to the Clark Art Institute. For the duration fo the 2025 construction season, all traffic leaving the Clark will be directed to Gale Road to Water Street (Route 43). The first week of construction will largely involve fencing trees for their protection and the installation of sedimentation and erosion controls. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — After three years of talking about the issue, the Planning Board on Tuesday wrapped up its work on a short-term rental bylaw proposal. Now, it is up to town meeting to decide whether to implement the local regulation. On a vote of 5-0, the board sent its proposal to the May 22 meeting after making one amendment and considering feedback it received in the form of letters from constituents. The amendment is a provision that would exempt military members or foreign service members deployed overseas from the local limit on the number of days a house can be used as an "Airbnb" during the time of their deployment. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Williams College is advising its community members in the wake of rumors that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel have been spotted on campus. In a communitywide email on Wednesday afternoon, the school's director of Campus Safety Services said that the rumors of ICE activity have not been substantiated and advised recipients of their rights if they are approached by ICE agents. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Sweetwood independent living center is working to restore hot water to the 70-unit facility. The outage forced the closure of Sweetwood's commercial kitchen and forced residents to use alternatives to the showers in their apartments. Sweetwood Executive Director Taylor Harding said Tuesday morning that the facility had been without water for "less than a week."
