Williamstown Select Board Seeks Volunteers for Diversity Committee

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board agreed Monday to start accepting applications to fill empty seats on the town's diversity committee.   With a resolution in sight for a long conversation between the board and the Diversity, Inclusion and Racial Equity Committee about the latter's purpose, Select Board members said it was time to fill two vacant spots on the DIRE Committee.   Randy Fippinger, who fills the Select Board's ex officio spot on the diversity panel, asked his colleagues at Monday's meeting whether it could fulfill a longstanding request from the current DIRE Committee members to fill out their roster.   Select Board Chair Hugh Daley said

Clark Art: Free Gallery Tour for New Parents

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at 10:15 am, the Clark Art Institute will host a tour of the permanent collection galleries for new parents.    The event is free. Participants will meet at the Clark's main Admissions desk.   New parents and caregivers are invited to bring their infants into the galleries for an informal, guided visit. The tour includes a look at the Clark's permanent collection, featuring an array of works by artists such as John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Berthe Morisot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas.    This special program is best suited for adults with pre-toddlers. Provisions Williamstown Grand Opening Today

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Provisions Williamstown, a new fine wine and cheese shop at 4 Water St., is celebrating its grand opening today, Thursday, with a tasting event that begins at 4 p.m.

 

"This is supposed to be an experience, like anything else we enjoy in life," said Peter MacGillivray, who runs the business with his family and others. "You really want to be able to hang out here. You want to dwell in the moment and explore new things and meet people."

Clark Art Presents Lecture on Imperial Data

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — On Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 5:30 pm, architectural historian Zeynep Çelik Alexander (Columbia University) will present a talk examining the architectural history of imperial data.    Sharing material from her forthcoming book, Alexander investigates the construction of nineteenth-century storehouses of information in the British Empire.    Alexander notes that what people call a "database" today was, first and foremost, a political technology that, she argues, could be understood as a legacy of imperialism.    The lecture takes place in the Clark's auditorium and is free and open to the public. Williamstown Community Preschool Installs New Signage

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Williamstown Community Preschool began sprucing up its new home by hiring local sign maker Lindsay Neathawk, owner of Neathawk Signs and Design, to create a 3D sign for the business.

Neathawk installed the sign late Monday afternoon that features multicolored hand prints from the children as the leaves of a tree poking out of the top. Underneath the name and address "a place to grow" is written. The children's hand prints were taken at the school and Neathawk then scanned them into her design programs to create the sign.
