Springfield Diocese Adds New Name to Allegations Listing

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield has issued a quarterly update to the online listing of "Finding of Credibility of Allegations of Sexual Abuse of a Minor."   The update is part of the diocese's commitment to provide regular communications regarding safe environment efforts.   Effective Monday, Nov. 29,  the name of the late Rev. Joseph P. Quinlan has been added to the online list based on a credible finding by the diocesan Review Board. Quinlan was ordained in 1971 and died in 1989. The abuse reported in this allegation dates back to 1974 and involved a minor.   Quinlan’s full assignment listing can be found here.


Mount Greylock Posts First Quarter Honor Roll for 2021

Bay State Games Cancels Winter Figure Skating Competition

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Bay State Games are skipping the figure skating competition again this winter and the status of the hockey games are uncertain.    This would be the second year that competition in Northern Berkshire has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Winter Games were last held in 2020, just before the start of the pandemic. The Summer Games that year were canceled but were held successfully this past summer, as were some of the winter sports — but not in North Berkshire.     Williams College has hosted the annual figure skating competition for 35 years. The Trustees' Brian Cruey says the mansion's gardens are illuminated by more than 150,000 LED lights.

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Trustees of Reservations' Winterlights is returning to Naumkeag for its fourth year.  The show is running from November 26 to January 9 and is currently 90 percent sold out.

The 48-acre property is illuminated with more than 150,000 LED bulbs and features themed displays such as Rainbow Road, Laser Light Forest, and the hallmark Blue Steps.

This year, guests can once again experience the Chinese Garden decorated for New Year's and the Evergreen Garden. The late 1800s home is also part of Winterlights for 2021, featuring a pianist,


Williams Men's Basketball Improves to 5-0

DELHI, N.Y. -- Cole Prowitt-Smith scored 24 points Sunday to lead the Williams College men's basketball team to a 74-67 win over SUNY-Delhi.   Nate Karren had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Dalton's Brandon Roughley scored four for Williams (5-0), which hosts Worcester State on Thursday.   Men's Hockey WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Oswego State answered an early Williams goal with three straight to earn a 3-1 win and a weekend sweep.   Jacob Monroe scored in the seventh minute for Wiliams, which got 29 saves from Cole Sandquist.   Williams (2-2) continues a six-game homestand against Conn College on Friday.


Veteran Spotlight: Army Spc. Eric Rogers

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Eric Rogers served his country in the Army as a specialist from 2010 to 2014.    He joined the service one week before his 21st birthday and did his basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina.    "It wasn't as bad as it was annoying. There's a big gap between guys that were 18 and 21. I kept getting in trouble for stupid things the younger guys did," he said.    After basic, Rogers was sent to Army School in Huntsville, Ala., where he spent a few months, then to the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Williamstown Planning Board Continues to Grapple with Dimensional Change Proposal

The Williamstown Planning Board and Community Development Director Andrew Groff meet virtually earlier this month.   WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Planning Board this month continued to discuss major revisions to the zoning bylaw that it could bring to town meeting as early as this May.   But a familiar difference of opinion continues to keep the panel from agreeing on one of the more sweeping changes on the table.   Chair Chris Winters, who went through the entire bylaw and proposed a series of changes to give the board a starting point for its discussion, has advocated for reducing the frontage and area requirements for housing lots in all the residential


MDAR Commissioner Marks 'Green Friday' at Seekonk Tree Farm

Seekonk Tree Farm was selected for the annual 'Green Friday' pronouncement. MDAR Commissioner John Lebeaux traveled to the family-owned farm to present Peter Sweet Jr. and family with the state proclamation encouraging state residents to buy their greenery local.

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — State Department of Agricultural Resources Commissioner John Lebeaux traveled to Seekonk Tree Farm to celebrate "Green Friday" with the cutting of a Christmas tree.  The day is meant to encourage residents to source holiday plants from local farms.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday, shop local on Small Business Saturday.   Communities throughout the county are elevating their small businesses on Small Business Saturday with holiday markets and other special events.   The national effort occurs on Nov. 27, one day after Black Friday when people typically flock to big box stores for holiday shopping. Winter Weather Advisory for Northern Berkshire; Snow on the Way

Friday morning's cold and rainy weather is expected to give way to the first significant snow of the season later in the day.    The region could get 2 to 6 inches with up to 10 inches in the higher elevations. Rate of snowfall could reach up to an inch an hour late in the afternoon and this evening.    Or, we could just get slushy rain.    The National Weather Service in Albany, N.Y., has issued a winter weather advisory for eastern Rensselaer County in New York, Northern Berkshire until 7 a.m. on Saturday.
