 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The interim superintendent of the Mount Greylock Regional School District updated the Select Board on Monday on efforts to improve the culture in the public schools, including two that rely on American Rescue Plan Act funds supplied by the town. Joe Bergeron was at Town Hall to talk about the middle-high school's participation in the U.S. Department of Justice's School-Student Problem Identification and Resolution of Issues Together (SPIRIT) program and a districtwide assessment of its process for responding to incidents of bias and bullying. The pair team up for an inventive concert featuring a new work composed by Aucoin for Hanick. This concert takes place in the Manton Research Center auditorium. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Select Board on Monday discussed how to implement a targeted property tax relief measure that town meeting approved last May. The initiative, which started with the board, allows the town to give means-tested property tax exemptions to residents 65 and older who meet the commonwealth's requirement for a refundable credit on their state income tax. In May, town meeting members overwhelmingly decided to send a home-rule petition to Boston to allow the local tax relief program. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Twenty-four applicants from as far away as California applied to be the town's next fire chief, the Prudential Committee learned on Wednesday. By the end of next month, one of those applicants could be named the replacement for retiring Chief Craig Pedercini. At Wednesday's meeting of the committee, which oversees the fire district, member Joe Beverly, who also serves on the district's Personnel Committee, reported that the latter body had reviewed two dozen applicants who sought to lead the call-volunteer department. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Community Preservation Committee Wednesday decided to send town meeting warrant articles that fund each of eight applications for CPA funds at half of the levels requested. The committee started its consideration of fiscal year 2026 requests with applications totaling about $294,000. Pending tax collection and state matching funds, the town expects to have $202,535 in Community Preservation Act funds available in the fiscal year that begins on July 1. But CPC Chair Philip McKnight noted at Wednesday's meeting that nearly $43,000 of that available balance needed to be held in reserve for future open space requests because none of the requests 0 Comments
