Judge Denies Request to Delay Williamstown Town MeetingBy Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff 03:20PM / Tuesday, May 17, 2022 | | A Superior Court judge in Pittsfield Tuesday denied a request for an injunction that would have postponed Tuesday’s meeting but required that all participants wear masks. The town previously had announced it would provide masks to any attendees needing one. Earlier versions of this story incorrectly identified Huff Templeton as a party to the motion seeking an injunction. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Board of Health on Monday morning strongly recommended that attendees at Tuesday's annual town meeting wear masks and relayed that masks will be available for anyone who arrives without one. But a groundswell appears to be developing for that meeting to be 1 Comment Read More >> |

Williamstown Facing Prospect of Lengthy Town MeetingBy Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff 04:46AM / Monday, May 16, 2022 | | WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Increasingly, residents and town officials are talking about the problems with a town meeting form of government, and one of the issues raised is the length of the meeting and how they create an advantage for those who can attend a late meeting on a Tuesday night. This Tuesday's meeting likely could add fuel to that fire. Residents will meet on May 17 at 7 p.m. at Williamstown Elementary School to tackle a 49-article meeting warrant that includes 10 bylaw amendments put forth by the town's Planning Board. Some of those articles have sparked lengthy and impassioned debate at the board level, and it is fair to expect to hear many of the 1 Comment Read More >> |

Letter: E-Scooters Injuries: A New EpidemicLetter to the Editor, 07:10PM / Sunday, May 15, 2022
To the Editor: With the advent of the Bird e-scooters in Pittsfield, available to anyone with a license, a few cents, and a cell phone, I hope that Berkshire Medical Center's emergency room is ready for the traumatic brain injuries coming down the road. The rentals don't include helmets and I've seen plenty of people having a blast — laughing and zipping along next to traffic — some riding double and no one wearing a helmet. They feel like a toy but they aren't toys: E-scooters are one of the most dangerous vehicles on the road with double the head injuries of cyclists — the injury rate is comparable to motorcycle riding. This includes the pedestrians who

Letter: Voters Should Reject Changes to RR ZoneLetter to the Editor, 07:00PM / Sunday, May 15, 2022
To the Editor: Williamstown residents attending town meeting on Tuesday, May 17, would be well-advised to watch the most recent "Talks on the Hill" at Williamstown Rural Lands, now playing on WilliNet. It is hard not to conclude that town voters should reject the Planning Board's proposed articles with respect to our Rural Residence districts. In a succinct 30-minute presentation on "Low-Density Development," Regina Fink and Annika Harrington provide viewers with a deep understanding of the complexities of rural development and housing, delivered with a clarity that has been lacking from the Planning Board itself. With neither research nor actual planning, the
