Williamstown Con Comm Looks to Take Custody of Spruces Park, Protect More WetlandsBy Stephen Dravis, iBerkshires Staff

 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Conservation Commission has decided to move ahead with a plan to ask town meeting to place the Spruces Park property under the panel's "care, custody, management and control." On a vote of 6-0, the commissioners OK'd draft warrant article language about the 114-acre former Spruces Mobile Home Park at 60 Main St. (Route 2). It also unanimously decided to continue working on an article for town meeting that would expand the commission's authority over wetlands and water resources not currently covered under the commonwealth's Wetlands Protection Act. As Indigenous Peoples Day, it commemorates the harm to their cultures and communities that followed Columbus' arrival. Columbus' voyage had been celebrated on significant anniversaries but did not become an official holiday until being recognized by Colorado in 1905. It was declared a federal holiday in 1937.

Rebellion, presented in celebration and anticipation of the Clark's 2023 Conference, "The Fetish A(r)t Work: African Objects in the Making of European Art History, 1500–1900." The Clark shows "Sankofa" at 6 pm in its auditorium, located in the Manton Research Center. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) Theatre and Music departments announced the 2023-2024 season of performances with four productions including visiting performing artists, guest directors, and student directors in addition to two student concerts. WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional School physics teacher Shawn Burdick has been selected for the September Teacher of the Month. The Teacher of the Month series runs for the next eight months in partnership with Berkshire Community College. Burdick has been working as a teacher for 25 years but his path to this career wasn't a straight line. He worked in the physics research field for a number of years prior to becoming a teacher.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — A North Adams man was arrested Wednesday night and charged with armed robbery in an incident at the Cumberland Farms on Main Street, police said in a news release. Joshua Piantoni, 41, of Whittesly Avenue, was held overnight and transported to court on Thursday morning, police said. At about 11:30 on Wednesday night, police received a call from the clerk at Cumberland Farms reporting, "the store had just been robbed at gunpoint and the suspect had fled down Main Street towards North Adams in a four-wheeled ATV," the WPD news release reads.  WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Clark Art Institute and Berkshire Medical Center are teaming to provide a new mental health service aimed at providing assistance to trauma victims. The Clark currently offers a county-wide program, Rx for Wellbeing at the Clark, through local mental health practitioners as a means of encouraging engagement with art as part of a therapeutic treatment plan for those dealing with issues like depression, anxiety, and social isolation. The new initiative with Berkshire Medical Center, Access to Wellbeing at the Clark, extends the program to offer victims of trauma opportunities to engage with art as a part of their recovery efforts.
