Arlene Mason, 86
March 03, 2013
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Arlene Mason, 86, of Northwest Hill Road, died Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Born in Russell on Sept. 17, 1926, daughter of Harry A. and Clara Alice Martin, she moved to Williamstown in her teens and graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1944. She received her registered nursing degree from
New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.
Mrs. Mason had worked as a nurse at the former W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital in Adams and Sweet Brook Nursing Home. She and her husband, Ralph C. Mason Jr., whom she married in 1949, owned and operated Mason Oil Co. Inc. until their retirement.
She and her husband raised their family in Williamstown. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and served on the Mount Greylock Regional School Committee. Happiest outdoors, at home on Purple Kings Farm, she devoted herself to her family, her farm and her dogs. She was a "just do it" kind of person, said family, taking on all challenges fearlessly, tirelessly and cheerfully.
Besides her husband of 63 years, she leaves four daughters, Wendy Green, Terry Mason, Darcy Westall and her husband, David, and Lanny Mason and her partner, Leigh; three sons, Ralph C. Mason III and his wife, Christine, and Toby Mason and his wife, Sheila; two brothers, Richard Martin and Ronald Martin; nine grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Cole.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The family will announce a date for a celebration of Mrs. Mason's life to be held at Purple Kings Farm, 633 Northwest Hill Road, Williamstown.
Memorial donations are suggested for Hospice Care through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
