Robert A. Burdick, 88

March 31, 2013

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Robert Allen Burdick, 88, of 17 Elm St. died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Born in Adams on Feb. 28, 1925, son of Ernest and Ruth Allen Burdick, he attended local schools, including the former Williamstown High School.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific with the Seabees and with the Regimental Guard in Rhode Island.

Mr. Burdick was employed by the former General Cable Corp. and its predecessors, retiring in 1987 after 37 years of service.

He enjoyed motorcycling, NASCAR and spreading cheer.

His wife, the former Grace Rosellen Walden, whom he married on June 21, 1948, died on July 17, 2002.

He leaves a daughter, Lynn Unwin and her husband, Brian, of Windsor; a son, Robert A. Burdick Jr. and his wife, Beckie, of Castalian Springs, Tenn.; a grandson, Jason Loholdt of North Adams, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Two sisters and two brothers are deceased including Marjorie Nugent, Bette Gazaille, Calvin and Ernest Burdick.


FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service for Mr. Burdick will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 12:30 p.m. at Water Street Grill in Williamstown. Memorial donations may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
