WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Hilda G. Haig, 77, of 79 Champagne Ave., The Spruces, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 27, 1936, a daughter of Ellsworth and Yvonne Remillard Griffin, she graduated from the former Williamstown High School.
Mrs. Haig was employed for many years in the dean's office at Williams College.
She was a humble and gentle woman devoted to her family, and a generous, kind, friend to all. She loved the birds and wildlife that visited her flower garden. In her earlier years, she enjoyed country music and dancing with husband, Thomas S. Haig. More recently, she enjoyed reading and watching the Boston Bruins with her dog, Bella, at her side. She was a crossword puzzle wizard. She enjoyed her caring community of neighbors at the Spruces.
Her husband, whom she married in 1953, died on Oct. 19, 1980.
She leaves two daughters, Cindy Haig Collyer and her husband, Dan, of Williamstown and Kathy Haig and her husband, John Block, of Sudbury; a son, Don Haig and his wife, Kathy, of Hanson; a daughter-in-law, Terry Haig of North Adams; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Garnish and his wife, Kelly, Eli Garnish, Mia Alpi and her husband, Lance, Emmy Garnish, Sofia Block, Christopher Haig and his wife, Joy, Katie Haig and Kimberly Haig; six great-grandchildren River, Marlee, Anna, Charlotte, Lily and Liam; a brother-in-law, Jack Haig and his wife, Priscilla, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Thomas S. Haig.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Haig will take place Saturday, May 11, at 11 at Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel in Williamstown. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations are suggested for the National Shrine of St. Jude, 205 West Monroe St., Chicago, Il 60606. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
