Nancy Wagner Hart, 82

August 20, 2013

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Nancy Wagner Hart, 82, of 260 South St. died on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at her home.

Born in Philadelphia on Sept. 22 1930, daughter of Alvin Snyder and Hazel Spangler Wagner, she attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and graduated from Wells College in Aurora, N.Y. She received a master's in education from Harvard University.

Mrs. Hart was a psychotherapist at the Newton Guidance Clinic and was a child-care advocate for the Berkshire County Court Appointed Special Advocate program. She was a contributing author to the book "Diminished People" (1972) and, early in her career, taught nursery school in Roxbury.

A lifelong volunteer, she focused on children, the arts and social justice. She was a docent at the Clark Art Institute, an active volunteer with the local Democratic party, and a patron of the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
A Patriots fan, she always insisted everyone stand up for the kickoff.

Her husband, the Rev. Sinclair D. Hart, whom she married May 1955 at the National Cathedral in Washington, died Jan. 11, 2007.

She leaves four daughters, Susan Hart Smith and her husband, Matthew, of Croton on Hudson, N.Y., Elizabeth Gardiner Hart of Williamstown, Sally Hart Petersen and her husband, Timothy, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Julie Danforth Hart of New York City; a sister, Mary Esther Wagner of New York City; and four grandchildren, Amanda Danforth Smith, Alison Brady Smith, Jack Sinclair Petersen and Jane Danforth Petersen.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A funeral service and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at St. John's Episcopal Church, Park Street, on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 11. A reception will follow at the Williams Faculty Club. The family requests that flowers and donations be omitted. Arrangements under the direction of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals.
