WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Robert E. Mastroianni, 74, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in North Adams, son of Angelo and Evelyn Yuliano Mastroianni, he was educated in the North Adams public schools and graduated from North Adams State College, now the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, with a degree in elementary education.
An Army veteran, he was stationed in Maryland and Alaska.
Mr. Mastroianni was a 5th grade teacher at Williamstown Elementary School for the majority of his career. He also had taught in North Adams.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was an avid gardener, and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Since his diagnosis with Parkinson's disease more than 20 years ago, he dealt with his illness with grace and good humor.
He is survived by his sister, Bernadette M. Eastman of North Adams; his nephew, Gregg J. Eastman of North Adams; his nieces Lori M. Eastman of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Renee L. Eastman of North Adams; his grandniece and -nephew, Emily P. Eastman and Elliott J. Eastman, both of North Adams, and many cousins, other family members, and friends.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Sweet Brook Care Center for their support in his final years.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Mastroianni will be Saturday, Aug. 31, at 9:30 a.m. from Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, Aug. 30, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sweetbrook Activities Fund or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in care of the funeral home.
