Audrey Dobek-Bell, 68

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Audrey Marie Dobek-Bell, 68, of 110 Trowbridge St., Cambridge, formerly of Williamstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Born in Dunkirk, N.Y., on Oct. 16, 1945, daughter of Joseph and Martha Chrabascz Dobek, she attended schools there and graduated from Cardinal Mindszenty High School. She also graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1967 and later completed courses at Middlebury (Vt.) College, University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Lesley College.

Mrs. Dobek-Bell was employed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 33 years, most recently at its Sloan School of Management. Earlier, she had spent a year working as a governess for two families in Spain and France. She then taught sixth grade at Eden (N.Y.) Middle School and sixth grade at the International School at The Hague in Holland. While in Williamstown, she did substitute teaching at Williamstown Elementary School and held a number of part-time clerical and research jobs at Williams College, among them as an assistant to astronomy professor Jay Pasachoff.

She enjoyed languages, movies, European travel, eating well, cooking, going for walks with her husband, spending time with her extensive family, and, last but not least, reading and studying and giving away gifts of children's literature.

She leaves her husband, Gene Bell-Villada, whom she married on Aug. 9, 1975; three brothers, Joseph Dobek and his wife, Suzanne, of Travelers Rest, S.C., Patrick Dobek and his wife, Linda, of Dunkirk, and James Dobek and his wife, Mary, of Jamestown, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Mary Dobek; two aunts, Irene Pincoski of Dunkirk and Mary Dobek of Pittsburgh; an uncle, Joseph Carrus of Dunkirk; and nieces and nephews including Christopher Dobek and his wife, Amy, Elizabeth Dobek and her partner, Jon McNett, Kathryn, Jacob (and his wife, Kelly), Stephen, Jacob and Matthew Dobek; Jennifer Hayes and her husband, Edward, Jeffery Dobek, Jeremy Dobek and his wife, Molly, and Joshua Dobek; grandnieces and -nephews Colby, Brady, Mariusz, Madilyn, Luke Dobek and Ava McNett, and Rachel, Nicholas and Riley Hayes, and many cousins; and on her husband's side, her brother-in-law Kanani Bell and his wife, Susan Williams; her sister-in-law, Valerie Bell, and nephews-in-law Sebastian Bell, and Drew, Samuel and Daniel Watkins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Dobek.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dobek-Bell will be held on Saturday morning, Oct. 26, at 10 at Thompson Memorial Chapel on the Williams College Campus. Burial will follow in the Williams College Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10 at Thompson Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 59 Bobala Road, Holyoke, MA 01040 or in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
