Kevin J. Dougherty, 67

December 11, 2013

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kevin Joseph Dougherty, 67, of 94 Cole Ave. died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at his home.

Born in Newton on July 29, 1946, son of Joseph A. and Gertrude Connor Dougherty, he attended schools in Falmouth and graduated from the Lawrence High School there. He also graduated from Williams College and received his master's of business administration from Columbia University School of Business.

He was an Army veteran.

Mr. Dougherty was a partner at Venture Capital Fund of New England for many years. He began his career in commercial banking, including at Bankers Trust Co. and The First National Bank of Boston, and joined the venture capital firm Massachusetts Capital Resource Co. in 1981. He also served on the boards of several VCFNE portfolio companies.

He enjoyed golf and hockey and was a member of the Taconic Golf Club and the Dedham Country and Polo Club. He was also a trustee of Newton Country Day School.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, the former Moira Ryan; his daughter, Maggie Dougherty of Boston; his son, Michael Dougherty, also of Boston; three brothers, Joseph A. Dougherty of Hawthorne, Calif., William Dougherty of Boston and John P. Dougherty of East Greenwich, R.I., and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Gertrude DeMello and brothers, Thomas Dougherty and Paul Dougherty.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Funeral Mass for Mr. Daugherty will be held from St. Ignatius' Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill, on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 4 to 8 at Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, near the Brighton Courthouse. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire, PO Box 869, 99 Hospital Ave., Suite 100, North Adams, MA 01247.

We loved playing golf with Kevin, swapping stories about Williams and basketball. He will be missed by so many friends and we will continue to keep you and your family in out thoughts. We are so sorry for your loss. Joan and Peter Zegras

I was saddened to learn of Kevin's passing. Only two summers ago my wife and I met Joan and made the connection of Kevin and I from high school but my email to Kevin never got a response.
