Mildred Greene, 103

April 11, 2014

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mildred Greene, 103, of Williamstown, died
April 11, 2014. She had resided at North Adams Commons.

Born in Brooklyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cowin, she attended
Erasmus Hall High School there and attended Beaver College. She
graduated from the Harriet M. Mills School. She moved to Williamstown in
1954 when her husband, Dr. Nathaniel Greene, opened his dental
practice above the Mohawk Theater in North Adams.

Mrs. Greene was a homemaker, a mother, an explorer of many religions
who conveyed universal hope, faith and encouraging help to everyone.
Her son, Richard David Greene, said he and his father were specially
uplifted by her presence, as were her many and beloved cats and dogs,
of the warmly welcoming home, "a home resolutely open to anyone in
need."

She was also notable for a world-embracing social conscience. This, and
her readiness to fill a mother and grandmother role for a long series
of unrelated children and even adults, made this world a bit less
difficult for all. A small special goodness was in her mid-70s
suddenly creating some memorable artworks. Another special goodness
was the mutual deep warmth shared with nursing teams, and fellow
patients at North Adams Commons in her last five years.

Her husband, whom she married Aug. 6, 1933, at the Unity Club in
Brooklyn, died in 1988.

She leaves her 69-year-old son and many friends.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Burial for Mrs. Greene will take place at 11:30
a.m. on Thursday, April 17, in Eastlawn Cemetery. A memorial service
will be held at 7 that evening in Blackinton Union Church in North
Adams. Flynn &
Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals
, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall
St., North Adams is in charge of the arrangements.

Sail On, Mrs. Greene. I remember you and Dr. Greene most fondly (he was my first and longtime dentist) and still have and use an old golf club that he gave me as a teen. Bless you both.
