WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Dr. Edward W. Luczynski Jr., 84, a longtime resident of Williamstown, died on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014.
Born in Bayonne, N.J., on July 25, 1930, son of Dr. Edward W. Luczynski and Lucille Luczynski, he attended St. Peter's Preparatory High School in Jersey City and was a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He received his doctor of medicine from the Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia in 1956.
An Army veteran, he served from 1958 to 1961 with the rank of captain, completing a three-year tour of duty at the U.S. Army Hospital in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Dr. Luczynski was a solo practitioner in Dover, N.J., from 1963 until 1994. He specialized in internal medicine with a sub-specialty in arthritis and rheumatoid diseases.
After retiring to Williamstown, he became an active member of the Parish of Sts. Patrick & Raphael and was a Eucharistic minister. He volunteered for the former VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire for 18 years and was a longtime contributor to the Williamstown community.
He imparted to his family his love of reading, athletics and the outdoors, which he pursued throughout his life. He also would have wanted his Tunnel City Coffee group to know how much their regular gatherings meant to him.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, the former Sarah O'Brien, he leaves three sons, Edward W. "Ned" Luczynski III and his wife, Joy, of Tallahassee, Fla., David Luczynski and his wife, Lisa, of Statesville, N.C., and Kenneth Luczynski of Newport, R.I.; two daughters, Jan L.
