Harold L. Moreau, 95

December 20, 2014

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Harold Louis "Joe" Moreau, 95, of 91 Bachand Ave. died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at the Soldiers' Home in Chelsea.

Born in North Adams on Nov. 12, 1919, son of Edward J. and Clemencia Menard Moreau, he graduated from Drury High School in 1941, where he was a well-known athlete and a member of the Western Mass Football championship team. He later played semi-pro football and baseball with the St. Anthony Crusaders and the Whitney Packers football team.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served on the USS Milwaukee.

Mr. Moreau was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 31 years, until his retirement in 1982.

Later in life, he played softball and golf. He also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the North Adams Retirees.

His wife, the former Mildred Jennings, whom he married on Nov. 16, 1946, in the former St. Francis of Assisi Church, died on Aug. 4, 2007.

He leaves five nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Florence Adams, Joseph Moreau and Edward Moreau.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A graveside service for Mr. Moreau will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 1:30 p.m. at Southview Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Drury Athletic Department in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
