Doris M. Anthony, 103

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Doris Mildred Daniels Anthony, 103, of 71 Champagne Ave. died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Stamford, Vt., on June 8, 1911, daughter of Albert "Bert" and Edith Bishop Sanford, she attended schools in Stamford and graduated from the Drury High School in North Adams with the class of 1929. She also attended the former Bliss Business College and the former North Adams School of Nursing.

Mrs. Anthony was employed for 35 years as a private secretary in the purchasing offices of the former Sprague Electric Co. and what was then James Hunter Machine Co.

A member of First Baptist Church, she was very active in church work, serving as its clerk for 27 years and as president of the Women's Fellowship for many years. She also was a member of the Berkshire Baptist Association Executive Committee for many years. She was a 77-year member of the choir and sang in several choral groups in the area and was pianist and organist for several churches and fraternal organizations.

She was a 90-year member of the Grange and had been recognized in the past two years by the Vermont Grange and National Grange for her volunteer efforts. She was a member and past master of the former Stamford (Vt.) Valley Grange, and was a member of the Williamstown, Vermont's Friendship Pomona and National Granges and an associate member of the Bennington (Vt.) Grange.

Her first husband, Arthur H. Daniels, whom she married Oct. 1, 1955, died on Nov. 1, 1965.

Her husband, Merton S. Anthony, whom she married on Oct. 15, 1967, died on May 8, 1988.

She leaves her cousins, Betty Bolognani and Eunice Crowell, both of Readsboro, Vt.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Anthony will be Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of North Adams. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams at a later date.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or Stamford (Vt.) Community Church in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247.
