Nadene L. Lane, 93

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Nadene Lenore Lane, 93, of 14 Windflower Way died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at her home.
Born in Indianapolis on Feb. 2, 1922, daughter of Frederick A. and Helen F. Liehr Foster, her mother died when she was a young teenager and she assumed the responsibility of helping her grandparents raise her younger siblings. She attended schools in Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. She moved to the Berkshires after World War II.
Mrs. Lane and her husband, Robert Donald Lane, operated the Old Fort Restaurant at Fort Massachusetts in North Adams. She left to nurture and raise her family and, as her boys got older, returned to work at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and as maƮtre d' at the former Le Country Restaurant.
She retired as a secretary from the English Department at Williams College.
She was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Taconic Golf Course. She proudly displayed the certificate commemorating the hole-in-one she achieved in 1990.
Mrs. Lane was fiercely independent, living in her own home and driving herself to appointments until her final moments. She also enjoyed reading and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, whom she married on Feb. 2, 1946, died on Dec. 2, 1996.
She leaves her four sons, Dennis N. Lane and his wife, Kathleen, of Dalton, Robert S. Lane of Paris, Tenn., Richard K. Lane and his wife, Debra, of Shelburne and David A. Lane and his wife, Pamela; her brother, Charles Foster, of Whittier, Calif.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother and sister.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Lane will be Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday, March 20, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Williamstown Community Chest, 7 Denison Park Drive Williamstown, MA 01267.
