James M. Snyder, 86

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — James M. Snyder, 86, of Armbrook Village, 551 North Road, Westfield, formerly of Thornliebank Road, died peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2015.
Born in Rahway, N.J., he was the son of Martin and Norah Bridget McGuirk Snyder of Woodbridge, N.J. He was a longtime resident of Williamstown.
An Army veteran, he attended its Intelligence School at Fort Devens and served in the 332nd Communications Reconnaissance Company in Hof, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Snyder was a professor of business administration at North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, from 1973 until 1996.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown, and St. Mary's Church in Rahway. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with granddaughters. He also was an avid pinochle and bridge player. He was a beacon to his 13 nieces and nephews, setting a fine example for his beloved family.
His wife of 58 years, the former Josephine R. Dunphy, died in March.
He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, James G. and Donna M. Snyder of North Granby, Conn., and by his loving grandchildren, Georgia Snyder and Bridget Snyder.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A private service to celebrate the life of Mr. Snyder will be held at St. Mary's Church in Rahway N.J. at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
