Gail Colpoys, 84

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Gail Colpoys, 84, of Hemlock Lane died peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, following an extended illness.
Born in Glens Falls, N.Y., the only child of John J. and Rose Leavy Sullivan, she grew up in South Glens Falls amidst several aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom have predeceased her. She graduated as valedictorian from St. Mary's Academy in Glens Falls and from the College of New Rochelle (N.Y.) four years later, followed by earning a master's degree in education at the University of Vermont.
Mrs. Colpoys taught a year of elementary school and a year and a half of American history in the Hudson Falls (N.Y.) Central school system and later was a substitute teacher and tutor and coordinated the educational program at Stony Lodge Hospital in Ossining, N.Y.
She met her husband, Joseph Colpoys at Hudson Falls Central and they lived in Fort Lee, N.J., for a year, while her husband was finishing his doctoral program at Columbia, followed by 36 years in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.
She was a volunteer for many years at the Croton Free Library and in the religious education program of Holy Name of Mary parish.
When her husband retired 21 years ago, they moved to Williamstown, where Mrs.Colpoys was a significant contributor as a volunteer at the Milne Public Library, practically until her death. She was also involved in the religious education program of the Parish of Sts. Patrick & Raphael and was a longtime volunteer at the Clark Art Institute.
Besides her husband of 59 years, she leaves her daughter, Liz Costley and her husband, Tom, and her wonderful grandchildren Cate and Luke Costley, all of Williamstown.
She was predeceased by her older daughter, Abbie, in 2006.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Colpoys will be said at St. Patrick's Church, 54 Southworth St., Williamstown, on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at the Williams Inn. Interment will be in South Glens Falls at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the Milne Public Library through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
