Richard L. DeMayo, 78

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Richard Louis DeMayo, 78, of Bonnie Lea Farm, 511 North St., died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Born in Williamstown on Sept. 10, 1937, a son of Louis and Jessie Maino DeMayo, he graduated from the former Williamstown High School with the class of 1955.

An Air Force veteran, he served during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Mr. DeMayo was owner and operator of DeMayo Electric Co. for many years and operated Bonnie Lea Farm with his family.

He was an active leader for Williamstown, serving on the Board of Selectman from 1987 to 1992, Planning Board from 1997 to 2013, the Conservation Commission from 1981 to 1986, the Master Plan Steering Committee from 2000 to 2002, the Economic Development Committee from 1990 to 2000, and on Housing Partnership, Real Property Reuse and Capital Improvement Committees. He was a current member of the Affordable Housing Trust.

He was a trustee for the former Williamstown Savings Bank and was a loyal communicant of the Parish of Patrick & Raphael, serving on various committees over the years and being a Eucharistic minister and usher.

He and his wife, the former Carol Cobb, were married in 1961.

Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Andrea DeMayo Clancy and her husband, Bryan Clancy, of Holliston, and Lisa DeMayo, and her husband, Jonathan Allbee, and Carin DeMayo-Wall and her husband, John Wall, all of Williamstown; two sisters, Mary Lou Galusha of Williamstown and Joan Maddock and her husband, Curt, of Castle Rock Colo.; two brothers, Louis DeMayo and his wife, Pam, of Dennis and James DeMayo and his wife, Esther, of Trumbull, Conn.; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Greg and Sarah Clancy and Henry and Arden Wall; an AFS-USA exchange daughter, Veronica Cardenas Gual and her family of Mexico, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. DeMayo was an honorary father and grandfather to so many people who loved him and whom he loved.

FUNERAL NOTICE — A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Monday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. at Williams College's Thompson Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 13, from 2 to 5 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 63 Southworth St., Williamstown. Memorial donations are suggested for PopCares through Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247.
