Lillian R. Montgomery, 82

January 28, 2016

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Lillian Ruth Montgomery, 82, of 177 White Oaks Road, died on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born in North Pownal, Vt., on July 14, 1933, daughter of Charles and Ruth Knapp Harris, she graduated from Drury High School in North Adams in 1951.

Mrs. Montgomery drove buses for 38 years, first working for Eva Beverly Bus Co., later the former J.T. Bus Lines and then Dufour Tours. She touched the lives of many local families and provided a great sense of relief to parents knowing their children were in her loving hands as they rode the bus.

She was a longtime member of White Oaks Congregational Church and a member of the Williamstown Grange and local camping club.

She and her husband, Richard Henry Montgomery, were married on Jan. 15, 1954.

Besides her husband, she also leaves her daughter, Lynn Hewitt and her husband, Robert, of North Adams; a son, John Montgomery and his wife, Rose, of Enfield, Conn.; six grandchildren, Joshua Montgomery, Amy Montgomery, Alyssa Montgomery, Keith Hewitt, Kurt Hewitt and Katie Hewitt, and a great-grandchild, Aliyah Gamache.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mrs. Montgomery will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. at White Oaks Congregational Church. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening, Feb. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Donations may be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshires through the funeral home.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mrs. Montgomery (as I referred to her). I was one of the lucky children fortunate to ride her bus many years ago.
