Herbert H. Palmer, 88
December 09, 2016
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Herbert H. Palmer, 88, of Williamstown died December 9, 2016.
The only child of Harold and Elsa Palmer, he was born in Bennington, Vt., and went to Williamstown Schools.
He served in the Army during the Korean War from January 1951 to December 1952. After serving his country he worked for a newspaper in the Greenfield area as a proofreader.
He was a member of the Greylock Club in North Adams, an officer of the American Legion Post 152 in Williamstown and a founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Turner House Living Center for U.S. Veterans until his death.
He lived with his mother at the Spruces until her passing in 1991. Herbert would volunteer to drive the Turner House Van so that the veterans could make their appointments. He was always there to help a friend or stranger. While living at Meadowvale he would clean off all the cars in the parking lot after snowstorms. He would also help out at the poles during town elections and was an active volunteer for the Honor Roll construction at Field Park.
Not much else is known about Herbie because he was a very private person but he will be missed by those who knew him.
Funeral notice: A service will be held in the Spring and burial will be in the family plot at East Lawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
Such a nice man, he worked closely with my Dad with the Legion. He loved going to my parents' house and having coffee in the morning while they discussed Legion business. He always had a smile and he loved talking with my son about all kinds of different things. RIP | from: Christine | on: 01-05-2017 |
