Peter B. Schryver, 85

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Peter Brinckerhoff Schryver, 85, of Williamstown died Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.
He was born in Williamstown on August 15, 1931, a son of the late George and Beatrice (Moore) Schryver. He graduated from Loomis Academy and then from Babson College with a degree in Business. After graduation Peter returned to Williamstown and assisted in the operations of the family business Taconic Lumber Inc., which was established by his grandfather in 1889. He served as owner and president of the company until 1991. Peter was also a real estate agent for Schryver Real Estate. After retirement he was employed part time for the Central Berkshire School System.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown.
He was an active member of the Williamstown community, serving on the town finance committee, Williamstown Board of Trade, corporator for the Williamstown Savings Bank, and longtime member and past president of the Williamstown Rotary Club. Peter’s hobbies included square dancing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Richmond) Schryver, whom he married February 10, 1962 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown; two daughters, Diana Schryver and Suzanne Schryver, both of Merrimack, N.H.; three grandchildren, Cameron, Justine and Wesley Bolling, all of Merrimack; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Curtis and Priscilla Schmitz.
Funeral notice: Public calling hours for Peter B. Schryver will take place Monday, January 9, 2017, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. At his request private services will follow.
Burial will take place in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Memorial donations are suggested for the Berkshire Humane Society, Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter, or the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
