WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Ruth Cheney Hendricks died on January 28, 2017, at Westminster-Canterbury.
She was the wife of the late Reverend Walter F. Hendricks Jr, Episcopal priest at St. Luke's in Richmond, Va.
She is survived by her son, the Reverend W. Frisby Hendricks III and daughter-in-law JeanAnn, and grandchildren Walter Frisby IV (Cary) and wife Laura, Geoffrey and Christopher; daughter, Jean Rollins and son-in-law Richard and grandchild Betsy Stanley and husband Will and great-grandchildren Carter and Kate; and daughter, Margaret Zack and son-in-law Peter, and grandchildren Sanno and fiance Ed Scott, Britta Scherpf and husband Chris, and great-grandchild Everett, Annika and husband James deKay.
She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College, class of 1941. She was a member of ESCRU, the Episcopal Society for Cultural and Racial Unity, and proudly participated in the march on Washington in 1963. As a rector's wife, she served in many capacities but enjoyed mostly her involvement with the Junior Choir.
Funeral notice: The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, the Rt. Rev. Shannon Johnson presiding and the Rev. Lee Hutchson preaching, followed by the internment 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4, at Westlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St Martin’s Episcopal Church, 9000 St. Martins Lane, Henrico, VA 23294.
