Caleb S. Harriman

October 24, 2001

Caleb Samuel Harriman, 69, of 45 Bridges Road died Wednesday at home.

Born in Lowell on Dec. 30, 1931, son of Lawrence Manning Harriman Sr. and Minnie Evangeline Dursthoff Harriman, he attended schools in Wilmington and in Norway, Maine. He graduated from Norway High School in 1949 and from Bliss Business College in Lewiston, Maine, in 1951.

Mr. Harriman was employed by the House of Walsh from 1957 to 1967. He then worked for Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for two years until accepting a position at GE, where he worked until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Williams Lodge AF&AM, the Oxford Lodge 16 in Norway, Maine, the Composite chapter of Royal Arch Masons in North Adams and St. Paul's Commandry Knight Templars 40. He also was a member of Melha Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. and the International Order of the Turtles, WHS chapter.

His wife, the former Janice Claire Fowler, died Feb. 4, 1980.

He leaves a daughter, Tracy Ann Durnan of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Stephen Ames Harriman of Colchester, Conn., Charles Thomas Harriman of Fayetteville, Pa., and Lawrence Manning Harriman Jr. of Rome, Ga.; a sister, Sabra Smith of Fayetteville, and three grandchildren. He also leaves nieces, nephews and a dear friend, Dorothy Spencer of North Adams.


Calling hours will be Saturday, Oct. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, with a Masonic prayer service at 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Williamstown, or to Village Ambulance Service through the funeral home, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267, which is in charge of arrangements. A graveside committal will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Eastlawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Sandra Rehe, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
