WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Herbert Harold Palmer, 88, of Williamstown died Friday, Dec. 9, 2016.
Born in Bennington, Vt., on Oct. 25, 1928, the only child of Harold and Elsa Palmer, he attended Williamstown schools.
An Army veteran, he served during the Korean War from January 1951 to December 1952.
Mr. Palmer was employed as a proof reader for a newspaper in the Greenfield area.
He was a member of the Greylock Club in North Adams, an officer of American Legion Post 152 in Williamstown and a founder and member of the board of directors of the former Turner House Living Center for veterans until his death. He would volunteer to drive the Turner House van so that the veterans could make their appointments.
He had lived with his mother at the former Spruces Mobile Home Park, until her passing in 1991.He was always there to help a friend or stranger. While living at Meadowvale, he would clean off all the cars in the parking lot after snow storms. He would also help out at the polls during town elections and was an active volunteer for the Honor Roll construction at Field Park.
Mr. Palmer was a very private person, so not much else is known about him, but he will be missed by those who knew him.
FUNERAL NOTICE — A service was held in the spring and burial is in the family plot at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
