WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Loretta (Champagne) Smith, 99, of Williamstown, Mass., died peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the Williamstown Commons.
She was born in North Adams, Mass., on July 24, 1919 a daughter to the late Henry and Corine (Filiault) Champagne. She attended local schools. She and her husband were the proprietors of Smith Cabins in Williamstown during the 40s, 50s, and 60s. She was last employed with the Williams College Food Service for over 20 years. After her employment she volunteered at Williamstown Commons.
Mrs. Smith was an active communicant of Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown, where she taught CCD. She was a member of the Friendship Club and the Council on Aging. She was an avid Red Sox fan.
Mrs. Smith married her husband, John Thomas Smith, on July 27, 1940. He died on February 20, 1973.
Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary Cullen of Salem, N.H.; two sons, Thomas J. Smith of Arlington, Texas, and William H. Smith of Somers, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Nikki, Kathleen, Patricia, William Jr., and Susan; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Patrick, Sean, Shannon, Katie, Lauren and Mark; her sisters, Rita Langlois, Theresa Roberts, Eileen Hall and Claire LeSage; as well as her brother, Armand Champagne.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Celia Johnson, Doris Forgette, Lena Copeland and Beatrice Bachand; as well as three brothers, Wilfred, Lionel and George Champagne.
Funeral notice: Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapel, 521 West Main Street, North Adams, Mass. The family will meet at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 10 a.m. and all are welcome; a Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Sts. Patrick and Raphael Church in Williamstown, Mass.
Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Sts Patrick and Raphael Church or the St. Patrick’s Food Pantry in care of the funeral home.
