William Healey Sr.

William John Healey Sr., 81, of 490 North St. died Sunday at Sunbridge Rehabilitation Center in Newton, following a brief illness.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 22, 1920, son of Timothy W. and Bridget Emily O'Neil Healey, he graduated from Drury High School in 1938.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the service battery of the 16th Armored Field Artillery Battalion.
He was first employed as a diamond dye cutter for the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown. He was last employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Williamstown for 40 years, retiring in 1985.
A longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Williamstown, Mr. Healey was a member of the Northern Berkshire Camera Club.
He leaves his wife, the former Mary Rita Grady, whom he married Sept. 14, 1946, in St. Patrick's Church; two sons, William J. Healey Jr. of Whitman and Cornelius J. Healey of Sharon; six grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by a sister and a brother; Rita Healey died in 1945 and Cornelius T. "Neil" Healey died April, 28, 1999.
Services will take place Friday at 10:15 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown. Burial will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donors' choice through the funeral home.
