WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Leon Nelson King Sr., 90, of Plainfield, Mass., a former long time resident of Williamstown, died on June 16, 2020, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Leon was born on September 17, 1929, to the late John Paul and Alice (Raymond) King at home in the Hopper in Williamstown. He attended local schools. Leon served in the United States Air Force and receive the Air Force Longevity Award and achieved the USAF safe driver award. He was a member of the Williamstown Fire Department as a Forest Warden. He worked for the town of Williamstown and retired as a Department of Public Works heavy equipment operator.
Leon was predeceased by his wife, Marie Irene (Tatro) King, whom he married on November 3, 1956, at the former St. Raphael’s Church in Williamstown and who died on May 20, 2005. He was also predeceased by his siblings Shirley Therrien, June King, Jean Luczynski, Arlene King, Blanche McLain and Paul King.
Leon leaves his children, Leon N. (MaryAnn) King Jr. of North Adams, John J. (Karen) King of Dover, Del., Suzanne M. (Ricky) Hescock of Jacksonville, Vt., and Sharon C. (Lawrence) Michalenko of Savoy, Mass.; grandchildren Krista, Leon A., Christie-Lee, Elicia, Jennifer, Danielle, Nicholas, Emily Alexander and Hailey; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his furry buddy Autumn.
Funeral notice: A private funeral service and burial for Leon will take place on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Southlawn Cemetery in Williamstown with Military Honors.
