Virginia L. Russell

Virginia L. Russell, 92, a resident of the Orleans Convalescent Home in Orleans, died Monday at Cape Cod Hospital. She was a former Williamstown resident.
Born in Clintonville, Pa., on Aug. 20, 1909, she graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1931. She resided in Williamstown from 1945 until 1956, and in Petersburgh, N.Y., from 1956 to 1997.
Mrs. Russell was employed as a teacher and a social worker prior to her marriage to Lester Russell in 1942. She helped her husband found Taconic Plastics in Petersburgh in the early 1960s and Taconic International Ltd. in Mullingar, Ireland, in the 1970s. She retired in 1994.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, writing, bridge, entertaining and philanthropy. She endowed a scholarship for students of Venango County, Pa., and provided funded the Russell-Davidson Foundation, a private family foundation that makes grants to schools, colleges and the arts.
She leaves her husband, Lester Russell; a daughter, Judith Davidson of Orleans; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
