Barbara Hart, 85

March 24, 2021

Barbara Chadwell Hart, 85, of Williamstown, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the Williamstown Commons nursing home.

She was born in Williamstown on December 5, 1935, a daughter of Clara Mae Chadwell (Williams) and George Montgomery Chadwell. She graduated from Williamstown High School and continued her education at North Adams State Teachers College (now MCLA) and Berkshire Community College.

She worked for the Williamstown Public Schools system for 30 years as a paraprofessional. Before retiring, she was employed at Inland Management in Williamstown.

In high school, Barbara was a drum majorette and excelled in athletics. She went on to become a “soccer mom” before that phrase was popularized. She was very involved with her children’s education and activities. She enjoyed doting on her grandchildren, taking them to their youth activities, picking them up after school for an afternoon of fun and treats, and attending their sporting events, always the most vocal fan. She was very involved in the community as a Cub Scout pack leader, Pee Wee football cheerleading coach, Board Member of the former Williamstown Boys Club, and poll worker–counting ballots on election days. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved with the Sunday school program, socials and the annual tag sale.

She was an avid reader and in her later years enjoyed doing word search puzzles, arts and crafts and participating in family zoom meetings that featured Bingo, Scattergories and Word-In-A-Word. She especially loved music and flowers of all kinds and maintained a bountiful garden at her home.

Her late husband, Henry Hart Jr. died July 12th, 1992. She is survived by her devoted family; two daughters, Josephine, Boca Raton, FL and Williamstown, MA; and Deborah Seward (Clifford), Atlanta, GA; four sons, Timothy, Adams, MA, Robin ( Carla Davis Little), Monroe, MA, Allen (Meg), Amherst, MA and Ronald (Madeline), Weeki Wachee, FL and Stonington, CT. She also leaves eight grandchildren – Ronni, Benji, Christie, Miray, Maya, Cameron, Brooklyn, and Parker, seven great grandchildren, Aliviah, Tronn, Neveyah, Kingston, Cole, Dana, and June, and one great, great granddaughter, Everleigh; and a sister, Marion Patterson (Roland), Poughkeepsie, NY. She was predeceased by two siblings - Elizabeth Van Slyke and John Chadwell.

A very special thank you to the staff at Williamstown Commons and Sweetbrook Nursing home, where she resided for the past three years, where she knew everyone’s name and they knew her; and to the St Clair family and Ellen McCullom who were care givers to her beloved miniature pinscher, Penny.

Her wit, humor, friendliness and tenacity will be missed.
