Tristan Lawson,12

October 04, 2021

Tristan McCarthy Lawson, 12 of Williamstown died on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Albany Medical Center.

Tristan was born in Springfield, MA. on August 26, 2009 a son of Daniel Edward & Maury M. (McCarthy) Lawson. He attended Williamstown Elementary School.

Tristan was fun, loving, caring and kind. He always thought of others before himself. Despite suffering from DIPG ( Diffuse intrinsic Pontine Glioma) , also know as brain stem cancer- Tristan would always think of others and ask how they were doing.

Tristan was very smart and athletic (before the cancer affected him). Tristan knew all of his multiplication facts through 12’s by the end of third grade and could climb a very tall swing-set pole to the top with ease. Tristan loved to do things: swim, play frisbee, X-C Ski ( especially at Prospect Mt. in VT with his triplet brothers through The Bill Koch League),basketball, apple picking, soccer, hiking, sledding, ……..

Tristan read MANY books just for his love of reading. He wrote in a journal daily with his loving cat , “Stripes”, by his side. His brown striped cat with white paws, nose, and belly truly loved him. They comforted each other.

Stripes loved to sleep as close as possible to and on Tristan- which has given us many wonderful photos. Tristan got Stripes as a kitten when he started his cancer battle for extra love, comfort and cuddling. They definitely were a truly loving match that were meant to be.

Tristan also loved his family, friends, Pusheen, cats in general, camping, hiking, fishing, sports, school ( Tristan loved to learn and was serious about it), cooking, making computer slide shows and working with computers, and many cartoons ( Gravity Falls, The Owl House, Amfibia, The Simpson’s, The Amazing World of Gumball, Big City Greens……. ).

Tristan started fighting his cancer battle with Doctors in Boston MA, but after a couple of months moved to Doctors in New York City at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Hospital where they could do a lot more to help him. We did everything that we could for a terminal cancer, believing that we could be someone who would over come this- but unfortunately that was not our outcome. DIPG is unfortunately the worse brain cancer a child can get……

Tristan’s cancer tissue has been donated to Weill Cornell Medical / New York Presbyterian Hospital through, ”Gift From A Child,” in a continued stand against cancer

(Please look up the organization “ Gift From A Child”). , to help in finding a cure to this awful disease. Tristan is still helping others even after his death. Tristan and his family were extremely close, he will be missed more than words can say. He was so loved by his family and he loved them back just as much.

Tristan leaves his parents, Daniel & Maury Lawson as well as his siblings including, his sister Juliann Lawson, brother and identical triplet, Hunter Lawson, fraternal triplet, Daniel Lawson and his brother, Nicholas Lawson of Chapin, SC. Tristan also leaves his paternal grandmother, Joan (Bohl) Lawson and maternal grandfather Robert E. McCarthy Jr. and uncles, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Juliann McCarthy and grandfather, Richard Lawson.

Dear Maury, Dan, Julie, Hunter and Danny, and extended family. I was devastated to hear about Tristan’s struggle with childhood brain cancer and his passing. I am SO very sorry for your loss. I remember him when he and he and his brothers came to Personal Fitness on occasion, and he was such a sweet boy. His obituary sounded like he lived a short but very full life, and for that I am grateful. But it’s hard, really hard. I will not call you now—although I would love to tell you in person how very sorry I am—but I will wait to get in touch in a week or two. Please reach out if there is anything I can do at the moment. In the meantime, I will keep Tristan and all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Mary Lou
