I met Joe Cain on my first day of student teaching (at Sarah Haskins School.) I was supposed to be teaching History, but when I got to the school that morning, I could not find my supervisor teacher. Joe was the teacher in the next room and he assured my that even if I was assigned to teach math and science, everything would be all right. Over the years (45) as a teacher (grades -Kindergarten through college) his words stuck with me. He always remembered me if I ran into him out somewhere in the area. Thanks for everything Mr. Cain.

Mr. Cain Was my homeroom teacher in the fourth grade at Haskins School. I always looked forward to the week that it was my turn to stay after school and clean the room and water the plants. He and I had some of the best conversations that I will always cherish.

I graduated with Joe from high school. (St. Joseph's High in No. Adams). We went through grammar school as well. He indeed was "one of a kind". Joe lived at the bottom of East Main St. We lived at the top. It was a long walk up that hill but so often Joe would hike up that hill and visit with my step-father on the porch having a cup of tea. They would sit out there for hours just talking. Over the years we lost contact but I have never forgotten Joe. If you knew him you never would. He was a kind person and always had respect for everyone. His smile would light up the world . He will be missed not only by his family but by anyone who had contact with him. Prayers go out to his family. Keep the memories close to your hearts.

I had Mr. Cain in elementary school. He was the best teacher. I can remember being at Friendly's with my dad and in walked Mr. Cain! I was happy to introduce him to my dad. He was a great teacher and a great man!

RIP Mr. Cain!

Joe and I were teammates in the NA Babe Ruth League and opposing coaches in the Stuart Schouler League. My friend Joe was the CEO of the Middle School Baseball League, where I coached. We had our share of
tête-à-tête! He would often visit me at 43 Hathaway Street and we would hash over our hard ball dreams over a hard one. If you knew Joe you would never forget him. He was definitely unique, and not your “ordinary Joe”!

I had the good fortune to say goodbye to him at the Commons as his sister mentioned he was there. We reminisced being hoop teammates in the NA Summer Basketball League, and our athletic endeavors. To know him was to love him.

I am sorry for this news. Joe Cain was my 3rd grade teacher and made me absolutely love school. He had such a fun and engaging demeanor. I've remembered him fondly many times over the last 40 years, and have used him as an example of everything an elementary school teacher should be. My condolences to his family.

Joe was my teacher in elementary school. He was a good teacher, attentive and a very nice man, very handsome too, with a quick smile. I think a lot of the girls had crushes on him. That's a nice thought. We reached out in later years through FB and talked about his love of classical music and life in general.
My condolences to his family. 💙🙏💙
