Frederick L. Keyes, 79

October 13, 2022

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Frederick L. Keyes, 79, son of the late Leonard and Delia Dubois Keyes of North Adams, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

He leaves behind his loving and caring wife, the former Barbara McCarthy; a son, Jeffrey Keyes and his wife, Sara, and their two children, Avery and Seamus, of Braintree; a daughter, Jodi Keyes Windover and her husband, Eric, and their two children, Evan and Nolan, of Millbury. He also leaves his sisters-in-law and their husbands, Maureen and Michael Follett of North Adams and Joanne and Brad Gadebusch of Clarksburg, brothers-in-law James McCarthy of North Adams and Donald McCarthy of Worthington, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Fred was a retired Army Reserve colonel who served with the National Guard and Army Reserve in both Massachusetts and New York for 29 years and also worked in management for 24 years at the former W.R. Grace in Adams.

Fred was an amazing self-taught carpenter, plumber, and electrician — a real jack of all trades. He built beautiful furniture for his wife, children and grandchildren whom he adored and who adored him. He was an avid sportsman who loved to play golf. He will be terribly missed by his family and friends.

Joanne, Brad and family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Fred. I remember him most from my banking days where I would see him on a weekly basis when he worked for W.R. Grace. He was always such a nice person with a genuine smile. Peace be about all of you and hold your memories close to your hearts.

Condolences to you and your family. Even though we were cousins all my memories of Freddy were when we were younger. He was a very caring person.
