WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Holland “Dutch” Powell Jennings
Dutch Jennings was born August 23rd, 2021 in Bennington, VT to Christine Holland and Samuel Jennings. He was the very best of his mom and dad. He loved, and was very much loved by, his three big sisters: Sadie, Lucy, and Pippa Wooliver. He was cherished by all who got to know him during his short time with us.
Dutch loved Sundays and Wednesdays on Jennings Brook Farm with Pokey & Pa (Maureen and Steve Jennings), and his Aunt Maggie, who spoiled him with gifts and love to no end. He loved riding bikes and playing with his cousins at his Grammy and Grampy’s (Janet and Tom Holland) house. Dutch loved making forts and running around his house with his big sisters, and playing hide and seek with “Mama”. He was the constant companion and life’s blessing of his “Dada”.
Dutch was diagnosed with ALL B-Cell Leukemia in October 2022. Despite nearly a year of intensive chemotherapy, he persevered with incredible bravery and grace. The Baystate Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic, and Baystate Children’s Hospital were always delighted by his presence, and charmed by him winking at the nurses and blowing kisses to doctors. He was a charmer, but there was only sincerity and love behind those winks and kisses.
When he was able to be at home away from treatment, he loved searching for animals, especially “Hop”, his favorite bunny in our backyard. He was even willing to share his favorite vegetables with Hop, leaving them out under the trees in the evening. Dutch loved syrup and honey, riding the “vroom”, watching “row row”, having at least five binkies present at all times, and the color purple. To hear him say “purple” would melt your heart.
Dutch is also survived by Matt & Erin Holland (Patrick, Andrew, and Bridget); Kevin Holland & Kristin Sullivan (Rowan and Jackson); and Greg & Sarah Holland (Charlie and Hattie), and extended family on both the Holland and Jennings sides.
A celebration of Dutch’s life will be held on Sunday, October 8th at Bloom Meadows, in Williamstown, M, at noon. His family would be grateful for any donations made in Dutch’s name to the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield, MA, or to any organizations dedicated to curing childhood cancer. | Although we have never met I feel like we are connected in some way… I am in the process of trying to navigate the loss of my 2 boys … I was blessed to have a daughter and 2 sons . I lost my youngest son on August 30, 2023 and my older son on September 29,2023. My daughter and I still cannot process such a loss and our heart are broken beyond????. I felt compelled to honor your beautiful baby boy in any way I could ??But although this pain is like no other and the whole in my will never be filled I realized how blessed I am to have had them for 29 & 39 years.
