Anne J. Conroy, 88, a longtime resident of Williamstown died on December 25th, 2023 after a brief illness. Born and raised in Pittsfield, MA she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Campbell) Johnson.
She attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. She trained as a nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City where she met her husband of 65 years, Ed, on a blind date. In the early years of their marriage they lived briefly in Maine and Rhode Island before settling in Williamstown in 1960.
Her lifelong nursing career included private duty, labor and delivery room, school nurse substitute and volunteering with Red Cross blood drives. After raising her family, she worked at the Williams College Infirmary and for ten years as Health Care Director at Sweetwood. An active community volunteer, she gave generously of her time to many causes, most especially to her parish of St. Patrick’s.
Anne and Ed made sure their home was the center of holiday celebrations for extended family for many years, and relished in their annual trip to Cape Cod. She was a gracious hostess, a keeper of old friends who also delighted in new ones, a wonderful cook, and the maker of the best apple pie.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children; Maribeth of Coral Gables, FL, Steven of Pittsfield, and Chris (Becky Logue-Conroy) of Warrington, PA; four granddaughters Shannon Conroy of San Antonio, TX, Molly Conroy of Boston, Meiris Logue-Conroy and Maeve Logue-Conroy both of Warrington, PA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved three sisters Eleanor Harrison, Marilyn Johnson and Jean Ryan.
